I believe Dabney Coleman was it and a very funny black lady...

The movie was a comedy. Dabney was told he was gonna die soon but it was a mistake. He tried to get killed in the line of duty so his wife would collect a big insurance policy. He did all kinds of crazy heroic stuff hoping he would get killed but he couldnt get killed


If an unwed couple lives together for X years, they each have right to half of the property for some number X. At least, this was the basis for a murder in the show "Columbo" starring Dabney Coleman. But Calif. legislation stopped recognizing common-law marriage as of 1895. So what's the basis of such a plot? that the courts do recognize common-law marriage in some way? Thanks in advance.

Does anybody remember the name of the Dabney Coleman Movie where he plays a cop who thinks he is gonna die so he trys to get himself killed in the line of duty so his wife and kid can collect his life insurance? (Terry Garr played his wife) ....I think it may have been in the 80's or early 90's.....
